Plans for a Flourishing Life
1 CHRONICLES 28:9–20
“Be strong and courageous, and do the work... for the Lord God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you.” — 1 Chronicles 28:20
At the end of his life, David does not hand Solomon a kingdom of regrets and call it inheritance. He hands him plans — detailed, deliberate, drawn from years of preparation he would never see completed. Be strong and courageous, he says, for the Lord your God is with you; He will not fail you or forsake you.
This is the right note to end a week on: fathers want and work toward the best for their children, even — especially — when they will not live to see it built. David would never enter the temple he spent a lifetime planning. He built it anyway, for Solomon, because love that only invests in what it can witness has not yet finished becoming love.
You may not see every harvest in your children’s lives. Some of what you plant — patience, honesty, a settled heart, a presence felt even when you are not present — may not bear visible fruit until long after the conversation has been forgotten, or until long after you are gone. Build anyway.
So let this be the question you carry past this week and into the rest of your life: What is your Heavenly Father asking, empowering, and equipping you to do — not only for your own life, but for the lives that will come after you?

Reflect: What are you building today that you may never see finished — and are you building it anyway?
Prayer: Give me the same long obedience David had — to build what I may never see finished, trusting You to complete what I begin. Amen.
