Friends – Day 4: Love That Endures and Grows

Hey friend,

What does a healthy friendship actually look like? Today we look at the mark of healthy relationships: enduring love that grows.

Scripture of the Day

"A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity."
Proverbs 17:17 (NIV)

Solomon also wrote, "Whoever would foster love covers over an offense, but whoever repeats the matter separates close friends" (Proverbs 17:9). Healthy friends don't keep a record of every wrong or retell the story at every opportunity. They cover, forgive, and keep showing up. And when a quarrel starts, wisdom says to drop the matter "before a dispute breaks out" (Proverbs 17:14).

John tells us how Jesus loved: "Having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end" (John 13:1). To the end. Not until it got inconvenient. Not until they disappointed Him. Authentic love isn't situational, but it should be adaptable to every situation — able to celebrate in good seasons and stay put in hard ones.

The mark of healthy relationships isn't that nothing ever goes wrong. It is love that endures and love that grows — a love that is still there after the offense, after the distance, after the hard season.

Reflection Question

Is there an offense you keep repeating or replaying that is separating you from a friend? What would it look like to cover it with love and drop the matter this week?

Prayer

Jesus, thank You for loving me to the end. Teach me to love my friends at all times, not just when it is easy. Help me cover offenses, forgive quickly, and drop quarrels before they become floods. Let my love be steady and let it grow. Amen.

In His grace,
The Brook Church Miami
