Friends – Day 1: Let God Shape Your Relationships

Hey friend,

This week we're walking through a sermon on friendship — the friends we have, and the friend we are. Today we start with the big idea: God wants more of us so that we can experience more of Him, and one of the ways He does that is by shaping our relationships.

Scripture of the Day

"His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness."
2 Peter 1:3 (NIV)

Notice what Peter says: God has already given us everything we need. He doesn't hand us a rigid formula to follow; He gives us a framework — a pattern to walk in — because He wants a meaningful relationship with us, not a mechanical one. Friendship works the same way. There is no five-step formula that guarantees healthy relationships. There is a God who invites us to grow, and a path to walk with Him.

That means our friendships are not a side project to our faith. They are one of the places where God shapes us. The people we do life with can pull us toward Him or away from Him, and when we surrender our relationships to Him, He uses them to make us more like Jesus.

Reflection Question

Where in your life are you looking for a formula for relationships instead of trusting God to shape them? What would it look like to give Him more of your friendships this week?

Prayer

Father, thank You that You give me everything I need for a godly life. I don't want a mechanical faith — I want a real relationship with You. Shape the way I love, the way I listen, and the way I show up for the people in my life. Take more of me so that I can experience more of You. Amen.

In His grace,
The Brook Miami
